士師記, 1章

1:1 約書亞死後，以色列人求問耶和華說：「我們中間誰當首先上去攻擊迦南人，與他們爭戰？」 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, <<Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?>>
1:2 耶和華說：「猶大當先上去，我已將那地交在他手中。」 The LORD answered, <<Judah is to go; I have given the land into their hands.>>
1:3 猶大對他哥哥西緬說：「請你同我到拈鬮所得之地去，好與迦南人爭戰；以後我也同你到你拈鬮所得之地去。」於是西緬與他同去。 Then the men of Judah said to the Simeonites their brothers, <<Come up with us into the territory allotted to us, to fight against the Canaanites. We in turn will go with you into yours.>> So the Simeonites went with them.
1:4 猶大就上去；耶和華將迦南人和比利洗人交在他們手中。他們在比色擊殺了一萬人， When Judah attacked, the LORD gave the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.
1:5 又在那裏遇見亞多尼比色，與他爭戰，殺敗迦南人和比利洗人。 It was there that they found Adoni-Bezek and fought against him, putting to rout the Canaanites and Perizzites.
1:6 亞多尼比色逃跑；他們追趕，拿住他，砍斷他手腳的大姆指。 Adoni-Bezek fled, but they chased him and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.
1:7 亞多尼比色說：「從前有七十個王，手腳的大姆指都被我砍斷，在我桌子底下拾取零碎食物。現在　神按著我所行的報應我了。」於是他們將亞多尼比色帶到耶路撒冷，他就死在那裏。 Then Adoni-Bezek said, <<Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.>> They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
1:8 猶大人攻打耶路撒冷，將城攻取，用刀殺了城內的人，並且放火燒城。 The men of Judah attacked Jerusalem also and took it. They put the city to the sword and set it on fire.
1:9 後來猶大人下去，與住山地、南地，和高原的迦南人爭戰。 After that, the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, the Negev and the western foothills.
1:10 猶大人去攻擊住希伯崙的迦南人，殺了示篩、亞希幔、撻買。希伯崙從前名叫基列‧亞巴。 They advanced against the Canaanites living in Hebron (formerly called Kiriath Arba) and defeated Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.
1:11 他們從那裏去攻擊底壁的居民；底壁從前名叫基列‧西弗。 From there they advanced against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher).
1:12 迦勒說：「誰能攻打基列‧西弗，將城奪取，我就把我女兒押撒給他為妻。」 And Caleb said, <<I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.>>
1:13 迦勒兄弟基納斯的兒子俄陀聶奪取了那城，迦勒就把女兒押撒給他為妻。 Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
1:14 押撒過門的時候，勸丈夫向她父親求一塊田。押撒一下驢，迦勒問她說：「你要甚麼？」 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him 1:14 Hebrew; Septuagint and Vulgate ((Othniel, he urged her)) to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, <<What can I do for you?>>
1:15 她說：「求你賜福給我，你既將我安置在南地，求你也給我水泉。」迦勒就把上泉下泉賜給她。 She replied, <<Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.>> Then Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.
1:16 摩西的內兄〔或譯：岳父〕是基尼人，他的子孫與猶大人一同離了棕樹城，往亞拉得以南的猶大曠野去，就住在民中。 The descendants of Moses' father-in-law, the Kenite, went up from the City of Palms 1:16 That is, Jericho with the men of Judah to live among the people of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.
1:17 猶大和他哥哥西緬同去，擊殺了住洗法的迦南人，將城盡行毀滅，那城的名便叫何珥瑪。 Then the men of Judah went with the Simeonites their brothers and attacked the Canaanites living in Zephath, and they totally destroyed 1:17 The Hebrew term refers to the irrevocable giving over of things or persons to the LORD, often by totally destroying them. the city. Therefore it was called Hormah. 1:17 ((Hormah)) means ((destruction.))
1:18 猶大又取了迦薩和迦薩的四境，亞實基倫和亞實基倫的四境，以革倫和以革倫的四境。 The men of Judah also took 1:18 Hebrew; Septuagint ((Judah did not take)) Gaza, Ashkelon and Ekron--each city with its territory.
1:19 耶和華與猶大同在，猶大就趕出山地的居民，只是不能趕出平原的居民，因為他們有鐵車。 The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots.
1:20 以色列人照摩西所說的，將希伯崙給了迦勒；迦勒就從那裏趕出亞衲族的三個族長。 As Moses had promised, Hebron was given to Caleb, who drove from it the three sons of Anak.
1:21 便雅憫人沒有趕出住耶路撒冷的耶布斯人。耶布斯人仍在耶路撒冷與便雅憫人同住，直到今日。 The Benjamites, however, failed to dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the Benjamites.
1:22 約瑟家也上去攻打伯特利；耶和華與他們同在。 Now the house of Joseph attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them.
1:23 約瑟家打發人去窺探伯特利（那城起先名叫路斯）。 When they sent men to spy out Bethel (formerly called Luz),
1:24 窺探的人看見一個人從城裏出來，就對他說：「求你將進城的路指示我們，我們必恩待你。」 the spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, <<Show us how to get into the city and we will see that you are treated well.>>
1:25 那人將進城的路指示他們，他們就用刀擊殺了城中的居民，但將那人和他全家放去。 So he showed them, and they put the city to the sword but spared the man and his whole family.
1:26 那人往赫人之地去，築了一座城，起名叫路斯。那城到如今還叫這名。 He then went to the land of the Hittites, where he built a city and called it Luz, which is its name to this day.
1:27 瑪拿西沒有趕出伯善和屬伯善鄉村的居民，他納和屬他納鄉村的居民，多珥和屬多珥鄉村的居民，以伯蓮和屬以伯蓮鄉村的居民，米吉多和屬米吉多鄉村的居民；迦南人卻執意住在那些地方。 But Manasseh did not drive out the people of Beth Shan or Taanach or Dor or Ibleam or Megiddo and their surrounding settlements, for the Canaanites were determined to live in that land.
1:28 及至以色列強盛了，就使迦南人做苦工，沒有把他們全然趕出。 When Israel became strong, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor but never drove them out completely.
1:29 以法蓮沒有趕出住基色的迦南人。於是迦南人仍住在基色，在以法蓮中間。 Nor did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, but the Canaanites continued to live there among them.
1:30 西布倫沒有趕出基倫的居民和拿哈拉的居民。於是迦南人仍住在西布倫中間，成了服苦的人。 Neither did Zebulun drive out the Canaanites living in Kitron or Nahalol, who remained among them; but they did subject them to forced labor.
1:31 亞設沒有趕出亞柯和西頓的居民，亞黑拉和亞革悉的居民，黑巴、亞弗革與利合的居民。 Nor did Asher drive out those living in Acco or Sidon or Ahlab or Aczib or Helbah or Aphek or Rehob,
1:32 於是，亞設因為沒有趕出那地的迦南人，就住在他們中間。 and because of this the people of Asher lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land.
1:33 拿弗他利沒有趕出伯‧示麥和伯亞納的居民，於是拿弗他利就住在那地的迦南人中間；然而伯‧示麥和伯亞納的居民成了服苦的人。 Neither did Naphtali drive out those living in Beth Shemesh or Beth Anath; but the Naphtalites too lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, and those living in Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath became forced laborers for them.
1:34 亞摩利人強逼但人住在山地，不容他們下到平原； The Amorites confined the Danites to the hill country, not allowing them to come down into the plain.
1:35 亞摩利人卻執意住在希烈山和亞雅倫並沙賓。然而約瑟家勝了他們，使他們成了服苦的人。 And the Amorites were determined also to hold out in Mount Heres, Aijalon and Shaalbim, but when the power of the house of Joseph increased, they too were pressed into forced labor.
1:36 亞摩利人的境界，是從亞克拉濱坡，從西拉而上。 The boundary of the Amorites was from Scorpion 1:36 Hebrew ((Akrabbim)) Pass to Sela and beyond.

    「耶穌背著自己的十字架出來。」約翰福音十九章17節

    有一首詩名叫「換來的十字架」。裏面講到一疲乏的姊妹，以為她的十字架，一定比別人的更重，所以渴望和別人換一個背背。一天，她做了一個夢，夢中她到了一個地方，在那裏橫著許多十字架———各種形狀不同，大小不同的十字架。有一個小十字架形狀最美麗，上面鑲嵌著寶石和黃金。這個姊妹一看見就說，「啊，這一個背著一定舒適。」所以她就把它拿起來，不料她虛弱的身體，竟在這個十字架下面震顫了。寶石和黃金果然美麗，可是它們太重了，她背不動。

    後來，她又看見一可愛的十字架，彫刻的木架上，盤著美麗的鮮花。她想：這一定容易背了。她就將它舉起來，不料鮮花下面，有許多尖銳的刺，刺痛了她的皮肉。

    她一步一步向前走去，一個一個試著，發見每一個十字架，都不容易背。最後，她看見一個樸素的十字架，上面沒有寶石，也沒有彫刻，只書著幾句親愛的話。她拿起它來，覺得這是許多中間最容易背的一個。她向它仔細一看，在陽光下，她認得這原來是她自己的舊十字架。啊！這個舊十字架竟是許多十字架中間最好最輕的一個！

    親愛的讀者，神知道我們需要背的是那一個十字架。我們不知道別人的十字架多麼重。我們常常艷羨有錢的人─—他們的十字架是黃金的，上面鑲嵌著寶石—─我們卻不知道這十字架是多麼重。還有一些人，她們的生活似乎很是可愛—─她們背著盤著鮮花的十字架—─我們卻不知道鮮花下面有許多尖銳的刺。如果我們能去試試別人的—─我們以為比我們自己的更輕的─—十字架看，我們就會發現：這些十字架中間，沒有一個像我們自己這個那樣叫我們滿意。

    假若你沒有耐心，
    卸下你的十字架，
    在此世上和末世你再也找不到它；
    因為這十字架只給你在此時此地
    為神的緣故而背負。
    再則它使我們能更加至誠至愛祂，
    侍奉祂，
    帶著喜悅之情，
    一步一步親近祂。
    此後我們不再被喚去背負十字架，
    這是我們此刻的任務。
    你難道不能多忍受一刻嗎？
    假若今天祂就從你的十字架上召喚你說：
    「事情完了，
    你可以卸下你祈求解脫沈重的十字架」。
    你豈不要懊悔說：
    「這麼快，
    讓我回頭再背一陣，
    因我尚未讚美祂」。
    無論何時，
    當我們所盼望的召喚來到，
    我們就會覺得這甚快，
    願我們及時留意，
    使我們現在就榮耀祂。

    "And he went out carrying his own cross." (John 19:17.)

    　ＴHERE is a poem called "The Changed Cross." It represents a weary one who thought that her cross was surely heavier than those of others whom she saw about her, and she wished that she might choose another instead of her own. She slept, and in her dream she was led to a place where many crosses lay, crosses of different shapes and sizes. There was a little one most beauteous to behold, set in jewels and gold. "Ah, this I can wear with comfort," she said. So she took it up, but her weak form shook beneath it. The jewels and the gold were beautiful, but they were far too heavy for her.

    　Next she saw a lovely cross with fair flowers entwinel around its sculptured form. Surely that was the one for her. She lifted it, but beneath the flowers were piercing thorns which tore her flesh.

    　At last, as she went on, she came to a plain cross, without jewels, without carvings, with only a few words of love inscribed upon it. This she took up and it proved the best of all, the easiest to be borne. And as she looked upon it, bathed in the radiance that fell from Heaven, she recognized her own old cross. She had found it again, and it was the best of all and lightest for her.

    　God knows best what cross we need to bear. We do not know, how heavy other people's cross are. We envy someone who is rich; his is a golden cross set with jewels, but we do not know how heavy it is. Here is another whose life seems very lovely. She bears a cross twined with flowers. If we could try all athe other crosses that we think lighter than our own, we would at last find that not one of them suited us so well as our own.─Glimpses through Life's Windows.

    If thou, impatient, dost let slip thy cross,
    Thou wilt not find it in this world again,
    Nor in another; here and here alone,
    Is given thee to suffer for God's sake.
    In other worlds we may more perfectly,
    Love Him and serve Him, praise Him,
    Grow nearer and nearer to Him with delight.
    But then we shall not any more
    Be called to suffer, which is our appointment here.
    Canst thou not suffer, then, one hour or two?
    If He should call thee from thy cross today,
    Saying: "It is finished─that hard cross of thine
    From which thou prayest for deliverance,"
    Thinkest thou not some passion of regret
    Would overcome thee? Thou would'st say,
    "So soon? Let me go back and suffer yet awhile
    More patiently, I have not yet praised God."
    Whensoe'er it comes, that summons that we look for,
    It will seem soon, too soon. Let us take heed in time,
    That God may now be glorified in us.

    八月廿九日　跟從十字架

    「主為我們捨命，我們從此就知道何為愛，我們也當為弟兄捨命。」約翰壹書三章16節

    「人為朋友捨命，人的愛心沒有比這個更大的。」從主為我們而死，就向我們啟示那不可思議的愛。現在這愛的影響和能力住在我們裏面，使我們有份於實踐今天的經文：「我們也當為弟兄捨命」，而像基督的生活和愛心都應該在弟兄身上找到。

    基督的十字架是藉我們對基督愛的認識來衡量的，也是根據我們對周圍肢體的愛來測知。唯有衷心對十字架上基督的愛，才能每日使我們的生命有生氣，對肢體的愛也有相同的作用；我們與基督十字架的交通而有捨己的愛，不僅彰顯於基督身上，也在週遭肢體身上。

    在此，約翰對內裏生命的呼籲是完全地超然並屬靈，只有以信心接受基督親自內住在我們心中，並確實在其中運行，才能使我們接受此一命令：「若有人要跟從我就當捨己，背起他的十字架來跟從我。」除非治死天然的本性，將「老我」與「肉體」切實地與基督同釘死在十字架上，我們就能不犯罪——除非這樣，否則我們無法說：「我們喜愛祂的誡命，其誡命並非難以遵守。」

    然而若非每天持續住在基督耶穌裏，與基督的死交通並傚法之，才能照祂的應許奏效，藉聖靈在我們裏面對基督的啟示和榮耀，我們能深信祂的生命要住在我們裏面；祂要證明加略山上的愛，只有祂能親自使我們說祂的生命傾注在我們裏面，我也當為周圍弟兄而活的真理。只有藉著基督內住，才能使教會做到以基督的愛對待弟兄；而別人也因此看出我們是基督的門徒；世人也才會相信神已經恩待我，像祂愛基督一樣。

    八月廿九日　與神親密的關係

    「我不是對你說過，你若信，就必看見神的榮耀麼？」約翰福音十一章40節

    你在信仰方面敢作敢為的事，在理性方面你必感覺得衝突。理性不是信仰，信仰不是理性；它們的關係，就如自然和聖靈的關係。在你理性所不能信的時候，你能信靠基督麼？當你的理性認為不真，你能英勇的照耶穌基督的話去做嗎？在山上是容易說──「啊，是的，我信神能作這個」，但是你到被鬼附著的山谷裡，遇見事實，你會諷笑你變形山上的信仰的全部。無論甚麼時候，我心裡的信仰的程序是清楚明白的，我所經過的事情總有與它相牴觸的事。惟願我能說我相信神供給我一切的需要，但是，到遇見困難而無出路的時候，我是緊緊握著信心呢？還是退後呢？

    信仰是必得試驗的，因為信仰，必要經過衝突，才能為私人所有。此刻你的信仰有否難的問題？這種試驗不是保證你的信仰正確，便是消滅你的信仰。「凡不因我跌倒的，就有福了」。最後一著，就是信任耶穌。絕然信靠祂，「凡你所遇見的，都足以發展你的信仰。」在信仰的生活裡，有不斷的試驗，最末後的大試驗就是死。但願神保守我們，使我們能應付前面的戰爭！信仰是以不能用言語形容的信心信靠神，絕不想到祂不在我們旁邊援助我們！

    八月廿九日

    「……聽命勝於獻祭……」撒母耳記上十五章22節

    當我們順服神時，祂常以醫治我們為報酬。若是我們要討祂的喜悅，得到討祂喜悅的人的獎賞，最令祂接受的事奉，則是我們對祂的讚美。

    讓我們帶著歡喜及感恩的心接待神，那麼祂就會使我們的臉上反映出祂的榮光。再說，活潑的生命、健康的體魄，都是一個快樂的心所帶來的產品。

    事實上，感恩的態度是建立信心的前奏，讚美的心則能使信心同時成長。懂得感恩的人總是樂觀，而且只看神輝煌的一面；也只有用這樣的心態，我們才能永遠地倚靠祂。不信的人則老是看著自己的問題，但問題往往越看越大，甚至變成了高山峻嶺，結果叫人信心全失。有感恩之心的人無論在何種情況下，都能找到令他快樂的原因。反之，悲觀的人即使在晴空萬里時，也能找到一片烏雲，或是在最甜的香膏中發現一隻蒼蠅。願我們能培養出一個喜樂的靈，並且在神和我們的生命中，不斷地發現那些能激勵我們的事，使我們沒有時間懷疑或是懼怕。
