約拿書, 1章

1:1 耶和華的話臨到亞米太的兒子約拿，說： The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai:
1:2 「你起來往尼尼微大城去，向其中的居民呼喊，因為他們的惡達到我面前。」 <<Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.>>
1:3 約拿卻起來，逃往他施去躲避耶和華；下到約帕，遇見一隻船，要往他施去。他就給了船價，上了船，要與船上的人同往他施去躲避耶和華。 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.
1:4 然而耶和華使海中起大風，海就狂風大作，甚至船幾乎破壞。 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.
1:5 水手便懼怕，各人哀求自己的神。他們將船上的貨物拋在海中，為要使船輕些。約拿已下到底艙，躺臥沉睡。 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
1:6 船主到他那裏對他說：「你這沉睡的人哪，為何這樣呢？起來，求告你的神，或者神顧念我們，使我們不致滅亡。」 The captain went to him and said, <<How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish.>>
1:7 船上的人彼此說：「來吧，我們掣籤，看看這災臨到我們是因誰的緣故。」於是他們掣籤，掣出約拿來。 Then the sailors said to each other, <<Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.>> They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
1:8 眾人對他說：「請你告訴我們，這災臨到我們是因誰的緣故？你以何事為業？你從哪裏來？你是哪一國？屬哪一族的人？」 So they asked him, <<Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?>>
1:9 他說：「我是希伯來人。我敬畏耶和華─那創造滄海旱地之天上的　神。」 He answered, <<I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land.>>
1:10 他們就大大懼怕，對他說：「你做的是甚麼事呢？」他們已經知道他躲避耶和華，因為他告訴了他們。 This terrified them and they asked, <<What have you done?>> (They knew he was running away from the LORD, because he had already told them so.)
1:11 他們問他說：「我們當向你怎樣行，使海浪平靜呢？」這話是因海浪越發翻騰。 The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, <<What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?>>
1:12 他對他們說：「你們將我抬起來，拋在海中，海就平靜了；我知道你們遭這大風是因我的緣故。」 <<Pick me up and throw me into the sea,>> he replied, <<and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.>>
1:13 然而那些人竭力盪槳，要把船攏岸，卻是不能，因為海浪越發向他們翻騰。 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.
1:14 他們便求告耶和華說：「耶和華啊，我們懇求你，不要因這人的性命使我們死亡，不要使流無辜血的罪歸與我們；因為你─耶和華是隨自己的意旨行事。」 Then they cried to the LORD, <<O LORD, please do not let us die for taking this man's life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O LORD, have done as you pleased.>>
1:15 他們遂將約拿抬起，拋在海中，海的狂浪就平息了。 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
1:16 那些人便大大敬畏耶和華，向耶和華獻祭，並且許願。 At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him.
1:17 耶和華安排一條大魚吞了約拿，他在魚腹中三日三夜。 But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.

    九月廿三日

    「信我的人就如經上所說，從他腹中要流出活水的江河來。」約翰福音七章38節

    我們常會奇怪，常會發急地說：「為甚麼我們不能流出活水的江河來呢？」我告訴你：多少時候是因為我們祗受不給的綠故。進來的東西太多了，我們從來不想到應該讓他流出去；所以，裡面常會停滯，常會發沉。我們應該讓我們所得到的流出去——多作見證，多傳福音，多做幫助探望的工作，多找事奉主的機會——這樣，你就會看見聖靈要替你開更大工作的門，要給你更多事奉的恩賜。

    門徒在五旬節受了聖靈的浸以後，並不租著樓房，留在那裡聚會，卻到各地去宣講福音。

    約伯曾帶著譏笑說：
    　「假若我獨自吃一點食物。」（伯卅一17）
    一個人若果真現出邪教行徑，
    　倨傲孤獨，
    不信神，
    不信基督，
    讓飢餓的靈魂，
    得不著飽足，
    　而教會正愁麵包過剩，
    他如何能獨自吃他的食物。
    「白白得來，
    也要白白捨去。」（太十8）
    　賜與我們一切的祂曾如此吩咐。
    我們的靈魂如何能不顧，
    　別人所發出的飢餓哀呼，
    主耶穌曾為他們流血，
    　扯碎自己身體給他們果腹，
    我們如何能獨自吃一點食物。

    "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his inner being shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:38.)

    　ＳOME of us are shivering and wondering why the Holy Spirit does not fill us. We have plenty coming in, but we do not give it out. Give out the blessing that you have, start larger plans for service and blessing, and you will soon find that the Holy Ghost is before you, and He will present you with blessing for service, and give you all that He can trust you to give away to others.

    　There is a beautiful fact in nature which has its spiritual parallels. There is no music so heavenly as an Aeolian harp, and the Aeolian harp is nothing but a set of musical chords arranged in harmony, and then left to be touched by the unseen fingers of the wandering winds. And as the breath of heaven floats over the chords, it is said that notes almost Divine float out upon the air, as if a choir of angels were wandering around and touching the strings.

    　And so it is possible to keep our hearts so open to the touch of the Holy Spirit that He can play upon them at will, as we quietly wait in the pathway of His service.

    　When the apostles received the baptism with the Holy Ghost they did not rent the upper room and stay there to hold holiness meetings, but went everywhere preaching the gospel.

    The patriarch spoke with scorn;
    What would he think of the Church were he shown
    Heathendom─huge, forlorn,
    Godless, Christless, with soul unfed,
    While the Church's ailment is fullness of bread,
    Eating her morsel alone?

    "Freely ye have received, so give,"
    He bade, who hath given us all.
    How shall the soul in us longer live
    Deaf to their starving call,
    For whom the blood of the Lord was shed,
    And His body broken to give them bread,
    If we eat our morsel alone!"

    九月廿三日　宣教師的生命

    「我們向你們信主的人，是何等聖潔、公義、無可指摘，有你們做見證，也有神做見證。」帖撒羅尼迦前書二章10節

    保羅再一次提到他可看得出來的生命，他也說過：「我們所誇的是自己的良心，見證我們是憑神的聖潔和誠實，在世為人不靠人的聰明，乃靠神的恩惠，向你們更是這樣。」（林後一12）基督已經藉著祂的言行表明祂的教導是何等豐富，保羅當尋求以生活見證他所傳的基督是真實──能拯救我脫離罪惡，藉著聖靈的大能將本性改變更新，有像祂而能信祂的生命。

    在「全球宣教師報告」卷中第五二一八頁，有這樣的一段話：「在我們宣教的地區，由於避免隱藏基督，宣教士們因著啟示就獻上他們的生命；也只有藉著宣教士本身的生活有基督的樣式，才能使他們接受福音，他們從親眼所見的事實，證實所聽到的信息。」

    試看保羅如何顯示他的生活是何等聖潔、公義而無瑕疵，使這些初悔改的人有勇氣活出高水準的生活。在一封信中，保羅呼籲他們在神面前心裏堅固，成為聖潔、無可責備（帖前三13）又說；「願賜平安的神親自使你們成聖，……祂必成就這事。」（五23、24）在腓立比書四章9節寫道：「你們在我身上所學習的，所領受的，所聽見的，所看見的，這些事你們都要去行，賜平安的神就必與你們同在。」在提摩太前書一章14、16節寫著：「並且我主的恩是格外豐盛，使我在基督耶穌裏有信心，有愛心……給後來信祂得永生的人作榜樣。」讓我們相信保羅所說：「基督在我裏面活著」，「不再是我」，他所說的是實際、神聖、不止息；基督住在他心中，照父神的旨意一小時又一小時的運行，除非我們也說：「保羅的基督就是我的基督，他宣教的熱心也在我裏面。」否則我就不休息。

    九月廿三日　宣教師的鵠的

    「看哪，我們上耶路撒冷去。」路加福音十八章31節

    在人類的生命中，其雄心是隨我們的發育而變化；在基督徒的生命中，開始就是有鵠的的，開始和終結的鵠的是相同的，就是我們的主耶穌基督。我們以基督始，以基督終──「得以長大成人，滿有基督耶穌長成的身量，」不是我們所理想的基督徒的生活。宣教師的目的是遵行神的旨意，不是自以為有用，不是能感動異教徒，他有用，他能感動異教徒，但那不是他的目的。他的目的是遵行主的旨意。

    耶路撒冷是我們的主在十字架上達到祂父旨意的最高峰，我們若不與耶穌一同到那裡，我們就與祂沒有同伴的關係。沒有甚麼事叫我們的主在往耶路撒冷的路上氣餒。經過受逼迫的鄉村，祂沒有趕快的趨避。經過快樂的鄉村，祂也沒有留戀。無論恩待或不恩待，絲毫不能搖動我們的主上耶路撒冷的旨趣。

    「學生不能高過先生。」同樣的事也不在我們往我們耶路撒冷的路上要遇見的。神的工作要藉著我們顯示出來，叫人得福。雖然大多數的人不知報恩，但總有一兩個人是要報恩的。無論報恩不報恩，不能羈留我們不上我們的耶路撒冷。

    「就在那裡把耶穌釘在十字架上。」那是我們的主達到耶路撒冷的時候所發生的事。惟其有這件發生的事，所以我們才能達到得救的大門。聖者不以十字架為終結：得以因主的恩典，而以光榮為終結。同時，我們的口號，是──我也要上耶路撒冷去。

    九月廿三日

    「……因為我——耶和華是醫治你的。」出埃及記十五章26節

    神要我們將身體和靈魂都交託祂，是很合理的。因為如果我們的信心不夠實際到能帶給我們暫時的解脫，我們怎能學會在嚴重的危機當中，完全依靠神呢？

    在信心中談論著死後未來遙遠的救恩，的確是件好事。大多數信主的人，都相信有一天會得救，但是這樣的信心是很難理解或站得住腳的。除非有朝一日，我們能面對面地接觸一些大事，以及一些勢不可擋的勢力，使我們能證明神的能力在屬靈生命中的實際，否則我們的信心是經不起考驗的。

    為了使我們在靈裡學些功課，在有限的身體上得著豐富的供應，神總是訓練祂的子民，在一切的需要上認定祂，不僅仰望祂作他們身體的大醫師，更以祂為他們靈魂的父親。我們是否已瞭解耶和華(rophi)的意義？(參出十五23—27)祂雖是使我們經歷瑪拉苦水的神，更別忘記祂也是使我們得以琳水泉祝福的主。
